Obagi Blue Peel System.

If you're looking interested in a chemical peel procedure, then the Obagi Blue Peel System may be right for you. We invite you to call to have your questions answered or to make an appointment: 480-981-6111.

Obagi Blue Peel is conducted in our office. Call for your appointment with Dr. Nirenberg, our Obagi Blue Peel specialist at East Valley Ophthalmology. Prior to and after the procedure, Dr. Nirenberg should prescribe the Obagi Nu-Derm System.

How Obagi Blue Peel System Works

Unlike common alpha-hydroxy peels or at-home procedures, the Obagi Blue Peel puts control of your treatment in professional hands. Based on your individual needs and skin condition, Dr. Nirenberg determines the strength of the peel.

The Obagi Blue Peel uses Trichloracetic Acid (TCA) as the active ingredient mixed with the patented Blue Base from Obagi. Dr. Nirenberg will apply the Obagi Blue Peel based on your level of damage and your desired level of Transformation.

What to expect from your Obagi Blue Peel

The Obagi Blue Peel procedure takes less than an hour in our office and does not typically require sedation. Dr. Nirenberg will apply the Blue Peel typically to your face and neck. A mild burning sensation will occur that generally lasts only a few minutes. Then, you may experience a bluish tint to your skin that usually washes off in 12 to 24 hours. Dr. Nirenberg will advise you on how many peels are needed to give you the desired result.

Depending on the strength and depth following the procedure, you will experience light swelling. Within two to three days, your skin will begin to peel. This peeling continues over the next several days. By the seventh to tenth day, your skin should be healed.

Once your skin has completely recovered and is finished peeling, you will notice a visible improvement in your complexion. Your skin's appearance should continue to improve for the next four to six weeks, becoming firmer, clearer, smoother, healthier and more youthful looking.

WARNINGS: The procedure for and use of TCA can only be performed by a physician or if permitted by law, a properly trained specialist working under a physician’s supervision. Proper medical knowledge is essential to the performance of any TCA peel. Dr. Nirenberg will inform you about potential medical risks and complications.

Frequently Asked Questions About Obagi Blue Peel

How long should I use the Obagi Nu-Derm System before getting a Blue Peel?

It varies based on the skin type, skin condition and depth of the Blue Peel. Usually, a minimum pre-conditioning program lasts 6 weeks. Skin with more pigment or hyperpigmentation requires 12-18 weeks.

Why is the Blue Peel different than a TCA peel?

Because TCA is a clear aqueous solution, over painting and uneven penetration can easily occur leading to unsatisfactory results. The Blue Peel is a unique procedure enhacing control of the depth of TCA. The blue mixing base helps to ensure consistent results .

What should be expected during recovery?

Depending on the depth level of the Blue Peel, healing time is between 3 and 10 days. After the procedure, you will experience light swelling and your skin will begin to peel within 2 to 3 days.
